Earth Centered Bohemian Wedding | South FloridaEmily and Ethan's intimate family ceremony at Miami Beach Botanical garden was a dream! When I first spoke with them on the phone we realized what a small world we live in . Emily is from Raleigh, NC and grew up down the street from where I lived! They live in New York, but treasure the South Beach neighborhood. Their vision was to combine their Christian and Jewish backgrounds with their current shamanic journey. They pulled it off effortlessly! While getting ready we got to hear about how Emily and Ethan met at school in New York, fell in love in Miami Beach at Art Basel, and how they've been able to support each other through job changes and life goals. They both love to travel, fine dining, yoga, and exploring. They've both embarked and committed to a life of transformation together. This started when they both left our toxic NY jobs to discover and pursue their passions. Ethan started teaching yoga this past year, Emily is following Peruvian shamanic practices, and their now working on a new online business venture selling all natural plant and mineral based tinctures and supplements. I'm a big fan of first looks because the couple gets to speand a few moments together to take it all. Their Japanese Garden location was full of emotion and love. It was especially special because he proposed to Emily in the Japanese garden at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens during the Cherry Blossom festival. Earth elements were important and they started their wedding ceremony with cleansing sage and sacred palo santo. Their ceremony table had crystals like pink quartz for love and passion, clear quartz for power, moon stone's the milky radiance of this crystal represents tenderness, and is believed to bring lovers closer together, and green calcite will help you to create the energy of abundance so that intentions can blossom into realities. They also included several traditional Christian and Jewish sacraments like blessing wine, walking around each other seven times to signify breaking down walls, and breaking glass in remembrance of the shattering of the Jewish temples. Their intimate, micro wedding was a treasure to be a part of and I adored witnessing the blending of family, faith, and love! They made the entire day a personal love story and celebration and their new chapter together. Thank you for letting me join in the festivities! Miami, Florida Wedding & Elopement Photographer | Miami Beach Botanical Gardens | Miriam + Owen2/28/2018 Colorful & Tropical Miami Beach Destination Winter WeddingI first Miriam and Owen over tea at my favorite French Cafe on Española Way in Miami Beach. I got to hear about how they met, how she bet him to dance on a table on one of their first dates, and how he had his eye on her engagement ring in a little jewelry shop in New York for years. Their wedding took place at the amazing Miami Beach Botanic Gardens beneath a stunning Banyan tree. Miriam's vision with vibrant and tropical florals fit the day and their personalities perfectly. They're energetic, full of life, and were ready to dance the night away. Their first look was perfect as Owen burst into the biggest smile! We then wandered the gardens and adventured into the Japanese gardens. Their ketubah signing was family centric and a beautiful tradition. The sun started to set and the cafe lights sparkled as Miriam's dad walked her down the aisle. My favorite part of their ceremony was the officiant's rap! I hope someone got it on video, but in the mean time check out some of his other mashups HERE. I loved seeing everyone in cocktail hour mingle from all over the country and loved that guests rarely stepped off the dance floor. This wedding was a joy to work especially because Drew got to work with me! Thank you M+O for allowing us to be a part of such a wonderful evening and start to you lives together! Marathon Key, Florida | Pearl Year AnniversaryTheresa and Brian have been married for 30 years and today got to celebrate their Pearl Anniversary in the Florida Keys. The Snooks came from the UK to the Sunshine state to reaffirm their marriage, commitment, and unconditional love with their family. As she was getting ready she told me how their first wedding was planned quickly and they were tight on budget. It was so heart warming to see her get pampered and treated as the beautiful queen she is and get a wedding re-do with their daughters as witness. Her girls were so loving and supportive as she got ready. I typically witness the reverse so this was beyond special. In our emails before meeting she mentioned how proud she was of her daughters and all they've accomplished. (Go check out Kaite's fashion/style Youtube channel and site and give her some love too!) Theresa glowed in her handmade dress from France and had a special touch pinned to her dress. On their wedding day, her mom gave her a locket to wear. Even though her mom could not be there to give it to her again, Brian fashioned the pearl with angle wings in honor of her mother. The whole day was a filled with those special details and was a family centric celebration. What an amazing testament to their daughters and future son in law. They exchanged vows through the expression of song lyrics and poems. "Cause all of me loves all of you, Love your curves and all your edges". My favorite was that their daughters also took part and read verses from plays that rest of the family then followed suit in reciting along with them. It was truly an honor to witness the inside jokes of this family, see their closeness, and capture their inspiring bond. They commemorated the location and their growing family through the sand ceremony. Each member took a tube with colored sand and layered it with sand from the beach of the Florida Keys. They were full of energy, always laughing and their joy was contagious. Drew and I can't wait to to connect with them in the UK or even in Rome, Italy next year! Getting to know the Snooks was an honor and we'll be staying in touch so we can connect on their turf soon :) Safe travels home, and y'all come back soon now ya hear?! Miami Elopement & Wedding Photographer | Sunrise on Hollywood, Florida Beach | Jarelle + Lee1/29/2018 Intimate South Florida Beach ElopementJarelle and Lee were amazing! I was so thrilled when they decided to trust me with their beautiful beach elopement and let me be there to witness their wedding! I love how they're adventurous and up for anything they. When I suggested sunrise, they were stoked. We met on Hollywood Beach by their hotel, Riptide, before the sun rose. I had the honor of setting up their ceremony space with a few candles, jars, and lanterns from my apartment. I think it added a romantic touch as the candles flickered and completed the boho vibe. I love sunrise because the beach is empty, the soft colors are divine, and there's nothing like watching that orange star crest the turquoise waters. They illustrated their lives and families blending by pouring sand from two separate jars into one and then sealed their vows with a kiss right at 7:07am, sunrise. What a perfect and beautiful way to start a new beginning and life together. J+L met by chance and then started a long distance relationship. Lee proposed in the coziest way; at home, with a love letter, and pan of brownies. In just a few months, they'll also be welcoming their baby girl into their family! It was an honor to be a part of this intimate and stunning ceremony. I loved having the quality time with them to take photos and create forever memories on the beach. They even let me take out my drone, Scotty! (If you want to see my first test flight video check it out HERE). Thank you J+L for this perfect morning!! South Beach Romantic Winter WeddingI first met Mari at the Setai for drinks and a venue walkthrough a few months before her wedding. We just hit it off. I got to hear all about how she met Kyle through a mutual friend even though they lived at opposite ends of California, how he makes her laugh, and how special this wedding would be. All of the above was so true! The intimate wedding ceremony took place at the Setai Hotel in South Beach with only family in attendance. This felt so warm and special because it was like a big family reunion. Sides collided and met for the first time. It was amazing to witness the blending of two incredible souls and their beautiful families. We started off their wedding day in the Setai's Mediterranean feeling courtyard then moved through the sand stone architecture towards the beach. Kyle had a family member who was a cinematographer so Kyle shared my enthusiasm for light, lines, and depth. I frequently would squeal and kind of freak out about how gorgeous they were and what stunning photos they were giving me. As we stepped onto the beach, on lookers definitely thought they were famous and many jaws dropped and iPhone photos were snapped. I mean Mari was an absolutely stunner in her black, off the shoulder wedding dress and her dapper and joyful husband is the perfect compliment. Mari's flowers were also on trend with Patone's color of the year: Ultra Violet aka purple. It was the perfect pop against her classic black. Sunset portraits on the beach illuminated the turquoise blue waters as the twirled, kissed, and laughed some more. Their ceremony was after dark, but Kyle had a vision of colorful and romantic uplighting that brought the space to life! The palm trees and lanterns were illuminated and set the tone for the evening. I stayed late talking with their family and making plans to come visit in California because they're just the best people! I loved every moment of Mari and Kyle's wedding day and felt so honored to be so welcomed by them and their family. Truly just a blessing to work with the kindest, coolest, and most fun couple. South Florida Wedding Photographer Travels To Chilean Family Farm For Intimate Summer Solstice WeddingPhotographing my cousin and her life partner's December 21st wedding in Patagonia was beyond a dream come true. My dad was born in Santiago, Chile and his whole family moved to DC when he was in high school. About 20 years ago my grandparents and aunt and uncle started to feel the pull of the fresh air, clear lakes, and mountainous skyline and opened a bed and breakfast called Quinta Del Lago about a 2 hour plane flight south of the capital in Puerto Varas. (You may have heard of the town in 2015 Volcan Calbuco erupted and covered the area in ash.) My uncle renovated an old german farm house next to Lago Llanquihue and turned it into a BnB with lakeside cabins, volcano backdrop, and working farm. Now, my grandparents live on the farm with my cousins and their 4 girls who take care of horses, alpacas, sheep, cows, chickens, cats, dogs, and tend to apple and cherry orchards and the gardens. You can follow their adventures on Instagram and book your stay on Air BnB too! My family lives all over the world, so it was perfect that Cristina (Titi) and Chris decided to get married in paradise and bring us all together to celebrate their love on the summer solstice. Chile is special not only because of family, but Chris also proposed to Cristina on a backpacking trip to Parque Nacional Villarrica and upon return to the farm asked our grandfather for this blessing. Chris and Cristina are the most caring, welcoming, and loving earth people. They currently live in California on their own homestead where they teach others about organic farming and make medicinal tinctures from their garden. Their connection to the earth and its cycles is what inspired the summer solstice celebrations to take places right at 1:30pm, the peak of the longest day of the year for us in the southern hemisphere. Titi and Chris planned the most amazing day! The week leading up to the wedding was so special too because our whole family got to be together, sing songs around the fire, go on horse rides and white water rafting together, and just enjoy the goodness and love of the festivities. Titi and Chris also were excited to include their adorable one year old, Isaiah's, in their wedding too! The personal details of the wedding are so special. The family came together in celebration but also to help throw an awesome party! Dress: Titi wore her mother's wedding dress Jewelry: Titi's bracelet was her mom's (and my dad's) grandmother, so our great-grandmother's, Laura or, "Lala" who I was named after! Invitation: Chris's mom, Lynn Frost, is an artist and painted Volcan Osorno on the invites Rings: Chris wore a handmade ring from Puerto Montt inlaid with volcanic stone Flowers & Centerpiece: Family helped cut wild flowers to decorate the venue and Titi's bouquet are from our grandmother's garden. Arch: Chris hand wove the arches from Kila from La Quinta's backyard temperate rain forest and hand laid the stone aisle www.quintadellago.com/ Wine: Another family member, Pato, has a restaurant in Puerto Natales, Chile called Aldea and he hand selected all the wine for the wedding! Band: Evelyn Cornejo Banwww.facebook.com/EvelynCornejoOficial/d is from Santiago and friends of my cousins! Getting Ready: Family's working farm and BnB La Quinta Del Lago Venue: Cabins down the road from the family farm called Rio Pescado The ceremony was touching and personal as the waves of the lake lapped and snow capped Volcan Osorno peaked out in the background. The officiants blessed all guests as they entered the arch way with flowers and sage. Titi and Chris honored those who could not attend by placing a rose in a bowl of water and saying their name. They were later released into Lago Llanquihue. They exchanges rings and vows, sealed their promises with a kiss, and then danced to their friend's singing as we threw flower petals in a colorful shower of love and joy. At the reception, local seafood was served with an array of all thing yummy in Chile like salmon from the lake, empanadas, fresh salads, Chilean cakes, and even a traditional asado where a lamb is roasted over a pit the entire day. The toasts were brilliant as family and friends shared memories, stories, and well wishes for the perfect couple. I am still so honored and humbled by the opportunity to capture these memories Titi & Chris. I loved seeing all my family in one place to honor and love on Titi & Chris and the personal touches of the wedding made it even more memorable and special. At the end of this post you can also see a little video I made shot and edited on my iPhone of all the amazing things the Lakes Region of Chile has to offer. Thank you Titi and Chris for letting me document your amazing day and for bringing everyone together for the most magical celebration! PS You can also see my two other Chile Blog Posts! Miami, Florida Highschool Sweet Hearts Love StoryI so treasured getting to photograph J+H's beautiful wedding day in Miami, Florida! Janelle and Hans are high school sweet hearts who tied the knot at Sylvester Place before a small gathering of family and friends. Hans has served in the Marine's for two years and will be stationed in my home state of North Carolina! Jannelle looked incredible in her David's Bridal gown and rose flower crown and Hans rocked his military uniform. Their ceremony was traditional and beautiful with heart felt vows and few dry eyes. The details were classic and perfect as well to match Janelle's red bouquet. I loved their sunset portraits, bubble exit, and night time lantern photos too! I so adored this wedding day, J+H's lively souls, and I wish all the best to these love birds!! Thank you for letting me be a part of the fiesta! Love Is Love Is LoveI don't know where to start with these two. Writing is not my strength. What's hard is how to convey how magnificent R+J are as individuals and now as husbands. Richard and I spoke on the phone and texted months leading up to their wedding, but we didn't get to meet until the venue walk through and their engagement photos. I know this was going to be the best wedding when Richard wrote "this may be the most fabulous wedding/engagement photo shoot you've ever done". I was sold! I got to hear about how James proposed in Key West on Richard's birthday at sunset, how they both want to be entrepreneurs, and their first date which was supposed to be a bike trip but turned into hours of talking. They also have amazing hearts of service. They spent their first thanksgiving as husband and husband giving back to those in need. What an amazing foundation. It was like we'd known each other forever. We laughed and joked as James walked us through his rustic chic vision for the venue. The engagement photos were the easiest I've done! They're just so naturally in love that no posing was required and I knew their wedding would be just as much fun. The wedding day came and not a cloud was in the sky. The grooms got ready at the Bahia Mar Hotel in Fort Lauderdale and then we had their amazing first look across the street at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park. Their ocean side first look was a dream. But the first tears of the day came when James surprised Richard with a shadow box of butterflies and a love note in memory of Richard's mom. The whole wedding was a family celebration. All were welcome and everyone was so supportive and ready for them to tie the knot! The ceremony and reception took place at Richardson Historic Park, where James used to work and one of the first places they met. Every detail that James planned out was flawless. He DIYed all the decorations and worked for months gathering and putting it all together. The cocktail hour had personalized yard games, a rustic hanging frame for photos, and even a donut wall. The reception's crowing jewels are the sweet heart table wall and the floral chandelier. The dance floor was never empty, family and friends grooved the night away and smiles were never ending. Their selflessness was only further on display when two of their friends got engaged that night and they took time out of their own wedding to announce it and honor that special couple and memory. I treasured every moment of R+J's wedding day and couldn't be more grateful to help celebrate their beautiful unicorn family. Sending so much love and hoooorayy friends!!! <3 Thank you the the vendors and amazing service team that helped make this such as perfect day! Fall Navy & Burgundy Wedding | Chapel Hill, North CarolinaAmy and Ben are the most incredibly deserving, kind, fun, God filled couple. I felt so blessed to fly up from Miami back to Chapel Hill to photograph this unbelievable wedding. Amy is a nurse and Ben is getting his masters in Global Health. With their powers combined they will change the world by healing, helping, and serving as missionaries. Their story is so heartfelt and their overflowing love for each other is so evident. When we first met in Raleigh I was almost in tears hearing about how Ben proposed. You have to read about it HERE. Thoughtful, family filled, and romantic. The tears didn't stop there though. Jenn and I had to wipe away tears a few times because their love is so rooted in their faith and doesn't stop over flowing! They radiated such pure joy the entire day. They had a "blind" first look where they held hands around a corner a prayed for their future as one. Their ceremony vows were straight from the heart as they promised to be by each other's side no matter where in the world God sent them. The speeches parents and friends made echoed and emphasized their commitment to serving their Father through selfless service of His people. Everything was beautiful beyond what Jenn and I could capture. Amy DIYed a lot of amazing details including flowers, centerpieces, and stationery. The fall colors were perfect through out the barn from the burgundy bridesmaid dresses to the hand foraged leaves for the exit. Such an incredible location, perfect couple, and beautiful day. So grateful to have been able to celebrate with Amy and Ben! Congratulations friends and I can't wait to see what God has in store for y'all! Sky Way North Beach | Something Blue
Rain couldn't stop these two love birds from radiating at this beach front styled elopement. We gathered on the water right outside Tampa, Florida. The Sky Bridge and sunset backdrop created the perfect mood for the star piano and vintage pieces to all come together. Since moving to Florida I've loved every moment being able to shoot on the beach. I love the sand, the water, and the endless sunsets. Adding these romantic and vintage pieces I knew I had to make the drive from Miami to be a part of this "your love is music to my soul" magic.
Julia is a dress designer and model and found her stunning vintage powdered blue dress in Australia. Julia and Stephen twirled and cuddled and worked this set. I also adore both rings, one is an engagement emerald cut ring and the other is a vintage blue cameo ring. I love how the piano and the beach are play off each other. The rhythmic sound of the waves with behind the romantic keys with touches blue to echo the ocean inspiration. I had the honor of photographing and making the video for this amazing scene! Shooting both in the same day is always a challenge, but I love the movement in videos and how music helps shape the tone of the day. I can't wait for my next South Florida beach shoot!
