5 Tips on How To Elope At The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah!
(2022 Update)

Picture
Are you thinking of eloping at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah? We're Drew and Laura, Utah Wedding Photographers & Utah Elopement Photographers! The Bonneville Salt Flats are the perfect place to get married! The Salt Flats are located about 2 hours from Salt Lake City in Tooele County Utah. Driving out to the Salt Flats feels like you're driving on the moon with the white, crunchy ground and the epic mountains in the background! Yes, you can drive on the Bonneville Salt Flats! It's also literally salt. The salt flats were made when an ancient lake receded.

So why are the Bonneville Salt Flats the perfect place to elope? The Salt Flats are open year round, the white salt flats are like a blank canvas where you can create whatever elopement you want, they're super accessible so no hiking required, they can be just the first stop on an epic Utah adventure!

1. Pick Your Salt Flats Elopement Date

Time of year is everything for your Salt Flats elopement! The Salt Flats are either hot, or cold, or wet or dry. Dry Salt Flats gives you that iconic texture and wet (December-February) will create a mirror, although it's not recommended  to drive on the Salt Flats when they're wet. THIS or THIS weather site will help you pick the right month for you! There is no cover on the Salt Flats, so keep that in mind for your Salt Flats Elopement especially if you pick a warmer month to get married. I'd say late summer and all fall are pretty safe!

2. Find An Awesome Officiant For Your Salt Flat Elopement

If you wan to legally get married, a local officiant can help walk through the process! HERE is a site on Utah Wedding Laws and HERE is the county wedding license website. You can also get married in a nearby or your courthouse OR you can come out and say your vows! Reverend Anita Gordan has preformed several Salt Flats elopement ceremonies so she can help you too! Drew and I would be honored to be your witnesses!

3. Best Wedding Outfits For Your Salt Flats Elopement

With the time of year in mind, you can wear whatever kind of wedding dress, jumper, suit, you want! Boho with lace and tassels, leather jacket with "Mrs. & Mrs." on the back, colorful suits to pop against the white backdrop, all black for a modern take. Have more than one outfit if you want! I would bring a few different kind of shoes and jackets just incase depending on weather!

Horseshoe Bend Wedding Panorama of two brides

Horseshoe Bend Wedding Photographer | Page, Arizona

Horseshoe Bend is the most incredible and perfect place for a wedding and to celebrate two incredible people. Horseshoe Bend gets its namesake from the iconic and now Instagram famous horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, United States. It is also referred to as the "east rim of the Grand Canyon or Glen Canyon.

I love that Marci + Dulce wanted to get married at this awe-inspiring location with their friends and family!

Dulce & Marci's met while working at a local college, and their first date was to a Marlin's Baseball game in Miami, Florida. They talked for hours from the drive down, at the game, and back home. Dulce had never been to a game before but she was excited to try something new, and that adventurous spirit is one of many reasons why M+D are perfect. They took several trips together while dating and their relationship only grew deeper as they hiked mountains, explored Horseshoe Bend, and created life long memories.

“I remember going on a trip to Tennessee just as friends and thinking to myself, ‘she is absolutely perfect, she is paradise and home all in one,’” recalls Marci. “I knew then I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her.”

M+D spend their lives helping, loving, and serving others. Dulce is a nurse and Marci is a multi-tour veteran who now works in security with a side hustle in photography.

I met Marci at a photography workshop and we clicked! We kept up with each other even from across the state (because that's the kind of caring and thoughtful person Marci is) and one day I got the call to help her plan her proposal.

We convinced Dulce to dress up and model for me because I needed Tiktok content, so I had my phone filming moments. The location was picked out, the spot was perfect, and I handed Marci the ring, and Dulce spun around with surprise and joy. You can read about it more on my blog HERE!

Their Horseshoe Bend elopement was postponed due to Covid, but the wait was worth it! Drew and I were over the moon to be asked to document their day. We felt like family! They had several family and friends there to celebrate with them and witness their emotional ceremony on the cliffs of the Colorado River.

They got ready at the Hyatt Hotel and exchanged the most meaningful gifts. Then we had their first look on the banks of Lake Powell. Antelope Canyon is sadly closed due to the pandemic but we tried our best to get some cool slot canyon pictures! We then drove to the National Park where family and friends and amazing officiate awaited.

The sun dipped behind the clouds, the wind died down, it was heavenly as they declared their forever love. They fit, they challenge each other, lift each other up, laugh, cry, dance, adventure together as they support each other as they make the world a better place

Thank you, thank you for letting us be a part of your perfect day at Horseshoe Bend!

What Is An Elopement? What Is An Adventure Elopement?

What Is An Elopement? What Is An Adventure Elopement?

What is an adventure elopement, what is an an elopement?
What's the difference between a ELOPEMENT ADVENTURE  & an ELOPEMENT? 🤷🏽‍♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Drew & I offer collections for both elopements and adventure elopements and we love offering you the experience of a lifetime. We think that any wedding or elopement should be just about your photos as your experience. We want you to look back on your pictures and remember how loved, cared for, beautiful, joyful, radiant, handsome, excited, on top of the world you felt. We create that experience by getting to know you through Zoom meet ups, constant emails, and giving you all our expertise as travelers and photographers!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💐 What is an elopement?
An elopement is a smaller wedding or an intentional celebratory gathering that is the perfect way to have a stress free wedding that's simple, unique, and personal. With an elopement, the focus is on you and your relationship, not hosting, not performing, not worrying about what time to cut the cake. You can include traditions or throw them out the window. Family can come to your elopement or it can be just you two and the officiant. Elopements can be on the whim or well planned. Elopements can be local or destination. Elopements can be a few hours or several days. Elopement can be your ceremony and then down the road you can have a big party with everyone!

An elopement could be where you head to the courthouse, have a small backyard wedding, or already have an intimate venue booked. (Pro tip: Go all out on flowers, have a baller wedding outfit, rent a sick car, an elopement doesn't have to mean plain! Add in your own personalities & flare!)

You get to do whatever you want, wherever you want!

🏔 What is an adventure elopement?⠀⠀⠀⠀

An adventure elopement is a small wedding or intentional celebratory gathering usually somewhere you & your love are not based and want to travel to. If you have the travel bug and you want to include epic natural backdrops in your wedding, then an adventure elopement might be for you. An adventure elopement doesn't require 10 mile hiking! We can balance accessible with jaw dropping landscapes. Beach, mountains, woods, desert, boat, island, field, salt flats, national park. We have loved being elopement photographers in Moab, the Salt Flats, Utah, Arizona, Sedona, and all over the world.

An adventure elopement is just that, an adventure! You can be adventurous in small way too! Like with your outfits, your flowers, your transportation. Your adventure elopement can be a day, 2 days, a weekend, or a week! We can go to several locations, we can hike, we can drive to epic views, we can travel abroad!

We can figure out a way to include your friends or family, plan on how to honor your heritage or religion, decorate to fit your personalities or let the stunning scenery do the talking. The possibilities are endless with an adventure elopement!

Usually, this requires a little more planning from our end, which we love and we have a collection for! We are lifelong travelers, and having lived abroad and photographed dozens of couples abroad, we have the experience to take care of y'all!

We LOVE helping pick out locations, activities, sending you super cool airbnbs, suggesting vendors, and planning a timeline!
Utah Elopement Photographer Utah wedding photographer
🌎 We have traveled to dozens of countries, national parks, and states! We have been all over the world for adventure elopements & we love travel & we know how to travel well! Iceland or Italy? Mountains or Beach? Utah or Hawaii? Hike to a mountain top or boat to a tiny island? Salt Flats or Moab elopement? National park or international? We can help with it all because we have that experience!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏞 You can create your elopement day or elopement weekend however you want! For example, we've had couple who had a sunrise elopement on Miami Beach with their friends, then we went to an amazing venue called Vizcaya that looked like Venice, Italy for pictures. Then, they went and met up with their friends for a pool party! We've also had a 2 day elopement in Moab, Utah where we visited several spots in a National Park until sunset then the next morning we got up for sunrise and went to another epic location.

What do you want to do for your elopement?

South Florida Wedding Photographer Travels To Chilean Family Farm For Intimate Summer Solstice Wedding

Photographing my cousin and her life partner's December 21st wedding in Patagonia was beyond a dream come true. My dad was born in Santiago, Chile and his whole family moved to DC when he was in high school. About 20 years ago my grandparents and aunt and uncle started to feel the pull of the fresh air, clear lakes, and mountainous skyline and opened a bed and breakfast called Quinta Del Lago about a 2 hour plane flight south of the capital in Puerto Varas. (You may have heard of the town in 2015 Volcan Calbuco erupted and covered the area in ash.) My uncle renovated an old german farm house next to Lago Llanquihue and turned it into a BnB with lakeside cabins, volcano backdrop, and working farm. Now, my grandparents live on the farm with my cousins and their 4 girls who take care of horses, alpacas, sheep, cows, chickens, cats, dogs, and tend to apple and cherry orchards and the gardens. You can follow their adventures on Instagram and book your stay on Air BnB too!

My family lives all over the world, so it was perfect that Cristina (Titi) and Chris decided to get married in paradise and bring us all together to celebrate their love on the summer solstice. Chile is special not only because of family, but Chris also proposed to Cristina on a backpacking trip to Parque Nacional Villarrica and upon return to the farm asked our grandfather for this blessing. Chris and Cristina are the most caring, welcoming, and loving earth people. They currently live in California on their own homestead where they teach others about organic farming and make medicinal tinctures from their garden. Their connection to the earth and its cycles is what inspired the summer solstice celebrations to take places right at 1:30pm, the peak of the longest day of the year for us in the southern hemisphere.

Titi and Chris planned the most amazing day! The week leading up to the wedding was so special too because our whole family got to be together, sing songs around the fire, go on horse rides and white water rafting together, and just enjoy the goodness and love of the festivities. Titi and Chris also were excited to include their adorable one year old, Isaiah's, in their wedding too!

The personal details of the wedding are so special. The family came together in celebration but also to help throw an awesome party!
Dress: Titi wore her mother's wedding dress
Jewelry: Titi's bracelet was her mom's (and my dad's) grandmother, so our great-grandmother's, Laura or, "Lala" who I was named after!
Invitation: Chris's mom, Lynn Frost, is an artist and painted Volcan Osorno on the invites
Rings: Chris wore a handmade ring from Puerto Montt inlaid with volcanic stone
Flowers & Centerpiece: Family helped cut wild flowers to decorate the venue and Titi's bouquet are from our grandmother's garden.
Arch: Chris hand wove the arches from Kila from La Quinta's backyard temperate rain forest and hand laid the stone aisle www.quintadellago.com/
Wine: Another family member, Pato, has a restaurant in Puerto Natales, Chile called Aldea and he hand selected all the wine for the wedding!
Band: Evelyn Cornejo Banwww.facebook.com/EvelynCornejoOficial/d is from Santiago and friends of my cousins!
Getting Ready: Family's working farm and BnB La Quinta Del Lago
Venue: Cabins down the road from the family farm called Rio Pescado

The ceremony was touching and personal as the waves of the lake lapped and snow capped Volcan Osorno peaked out in the background. The officiants blessed all guests as they entered the arch way with flowers and sage. Titi and Chris honored those who could not attend by placing a rose in a bowl of water and saying their name. They were later released into Lago Llanquihue. They exchanges rings and vows, sealed their promises with a kiss, and then danced to their friend's singing as we threw flower petals in a colorful shower of love and joy.

At the reception, local seafood was served with an array of all thing yummy in Chile like salmon from the lake, empanadas, fresh salads, Chilean cakes, and even a traditional asado where a lamb is roasted over a pit the entire day. The toasts were brilliant as family and friends shared memories, stories, and well wishes for the perfect couple.

I am still so honored and humbled by the opportunity to capture these memories Titi & Chris. I loved seeing all my family in one place to honor and love on Titi & Chris and the personal touches of the wedding made it even more memorable and special.

At the end of this post you can also see a little video I made shot and edited on my iPhone of all the amazing things the Lakes Region of Chile has to offer.

Thank you Titi and Chris for letting me document your amazing day and for bringing everyone together for the most magical celebration!

Spontaneous Engagement Photography In Puerto Varas, Chile

This is my second post documenting my awesome adventures in Chile! You can see the first one about my sister and her boyfriend letting me capture their love on my family's farm HERE. My dad was born in Santiago, Chile and then moved to Washington, DC when he was in high school with his parents and two siblings. About 20 years ago, my aunt and uncle and grandparents had this awesome idea to move back to Chile, but head to Patagonia and open a working farm and BnB. My uncle is a builder and my aunt is an interior decorator, my grandfather is an accountant, and my grandmother is a gardner. So with their powers combined, they created La Quinta Del Lago in Puerto Varas. Check out their website here and book an Air Bnb too! Now my cousin and his family have taken over the farm and have horses, cows, chickens, alpacas, and all sorts of fruits, veggies, and flowers! It's on a Lake, Lago Llanquihue, and surrounded by several beautiful volcanos. It's pretty much paradise in the summer time. And by summer I mean our winter because the seasons are flipped in the southern hemisphere! Because we were so far south, we had the sunshine out until 10pm! It may have been summer, but we had our puffy jackets on!

Because this place is so magical and my grandparents still live on the farm my cousin, Cristina, and her incredible life partner, Chris, decided to get married in Puerto Varas! It was the best decision because it brought all the family together from all over the world in  one place. We sang songs around the bon fire, sipped pisco sour from my grandparents deck, at meals together, and explored around Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Ensenada, Osorno, and Petrohue. While we were there I hung out a lot with another cousin Francisco (Panco) and his awesome fiancé.
Drew and I got to visit them and their two pups in Denver this summer and it literally almost made us want to move out there! They're the best. Goofy, always up for anything, inspiringly optimistic. So, of course I had to capture a few photos of them as we traveled and explored! I laughed and smiled editing these photos! Just a blast to hang with my super cool cousins!
1. Volcan Osorno - we drove up as far as we could (it’s a dormant volcano, we think?) to the ski resort and then hiked up to snow from there. It was me, Paulina, Justin, Victoria, Daniel, Disco Francisco, and Phoebe. Victoria found a plastic tarp in the car’s trunk and we obviously turned it into a sled! The ones of Panco and Phoebe were right before they crashed over the edge haha oops.

2. Rio Petrohue - Driving to the volcano from the farm there are parts of the road that aren’t paved because they’re old lava flows. Apparently cement shifts and never stays. But the cool part about it is that you can drive down one of these massive ash lanes and park right next to a turquoise river. The water is glacial cold! We actually all got to go white water rafting down it! The best time! The mountain in the background is actually another volcano! It’s Volcan Calbuco. It’s infamous for erupting a few years ago.
3. Lago Llanquihue - this lake is across the street from the family farm and is super ideal for sunsets as the snow capped Volcan Osorno reflects the colors.

Hope you enjoy these amazing, genuine, and lovable rock stars’ spontaneous engagement session in Patagonia, Chile!

This stunning beauty is my sister Paulina. She's hilarious, spontaneous, and caring. She also puts up with my constant photographer-ness where I'm like, "oh wait this is a beautiful pic stop wait ok that's perfect!" So when my cousin decided to get married on our family farm in the south of Chile, I knew I had go on an adventure with Paulina and her boyfriend Justin. She lives in Raleigh, NC where Drew and I grew up so it was the best Christmas gift to spend a week with them in Chile and then show them Miami! Paulina is studying nutrition, is an incredible animal whisperer, the life of the party, and so generous. Justin works for Cisco, is a former Marine, is the hardest worker I know, and up for anything. They're perfect!

My dad was born in Chile and now my grandparents and cousins have an incredible farm called La Quinta Del Lago with horses, cows, alpacas, apple and cherry orchards, and beautiful flower gardens next to Lago Llanquihue surrounded by volcanos. It's a working farm that's paradise and they turned into a Bed and Breakfast. You can actually stay there on Air Bnb too! Down the road is the beautiful Putrohue Waterfalls with aqua water of the Petrohue river and views of Volcan Osorno. On the farm we walked through the orchards where the sheep graze, frolicked through the alpaca fields, and walked along the lake as Volcan Osorno reflected the sunset colors. It was so hard to not pick a billion, but enjoy these travel photos of my beautiful sister and in this incredible Patagonia backdrop! Photos from my cousin's wedding will be coming soon!!

Shenandoah National Park and Ocean Isle Beach

I love to travel and experience the world with my husband by my side. This summer Drew and I took an anniversary trip to Shenandoah National Park and hiked several trails, saw black bears, and incredible views. One of our before we die bucket list items is to visit every national park! We also were able to visit family in Ocean Isle Beach which is an amazing island with gorgeous beaches and amazing neighbors.
