Fabulous FiveI was sooo happy when Nada contacted me to take portraits of their growing family! We ventured to JC Raulston Arboretum in the morning and all 6 of us chased butterflies and started looking for our first location the vast park.
One thing I've learned about family photography is to always be go with the flow. We planted in the first field we came to and stayed there the whole hour! It turned out perfect. The wise Ahmad and Nada brought snacks and entertainment so we were able to set up a recharge base for the kids which allowed us to get every family member combination. I love how the siblings t-shirts all match! Ahmad was soo incredibly energetic with his kids, I was so lucky to capture to stunning candids. It's so clear they love their dad! And Nada was positively glowing with her beautiful newborn. Those blue eyes! And her pink dress matched pink flowers we found! My heart. I love the energy and gentleness this family has. They're my new heroes.

StrengthJessica and her family are beautiful inside and out. I was so happy to be able to take their photos days before they moved to Tanzania. I was so impressed with the grace that this family walked with and the maturity each kid displayed. They were so excited for the new adventure! How strong are they to embrace new experiences?!
We walked around the JC Raulston Arboretum and tried to squeeze in as many photos as possible before a summer storm rolled in. Can't wait to see pictures from their travels! Go With The FlowThere are a million priceless lessons I've learned from this wise family. One of which is: go with the flow and we'll make it work.
I showed up to Hank Anderson Community Park and tried to capture the adventurous spirit of Kai and the unconditional love his parents have for him. Trying to pose a toddler, to me, is ironic. They're everywhere! Picking up leaves, splashing in water, running in all directions. But isn't that the best?! I'm so blessed Landon and Jana allow me the freedom to capture those candid, pure, story filled moments. If these three beautiful humans seem familiar it's because I took photos of them back in 2013! Look how much he's grown! (HERE's their other session at the NC Botanical Gardens). Love y'all ;) ServiceSelfless service. That's what immediately comes to mind when I think of Dottie and Brook. Dottie was a founding member of my church, Greenleaf Vineyard, and is our incredible worship leader. Her voice is angelic. Brook keeps our church running. He humbly works behind the scenes turning Culbreth Middle School to a church for a day. I was beyond honored when they asked me to take photos for their adoption website.
This was actually the 2nd shoot I did today! In the morning I took newborn/family photos of The Roth's, off loaded cards, then headed out to the Meyer's amazing wooded farm. Dottie's mom and sister were even in town to make it fun family affair! This site was once a Native American meeting spot because it's surrounded by a giant cluster of boulders. Super cool history. The Meyer's farm is complete with dogs, goats, and chicken. Please keep their growing family in your prayers, they truly deserve the absolute best. Thanks! Nursery LoveToday I actually did 2 shoots in one day! I went to the Roth's in the morning and then ventured to Dottie and Brook's farm in the afternoon. It was an amazing day.
Ximena and Andrew are wonderful homegroup (bible study) leaders at my church, Greenleaf. Andrew is a prayer warrior and constantly asks what I need prayer for. Ximena has the most heavenly voice and gives super real and helpful advice. I was so happy they trusted me to take photos to their adorable son! He likes to join us at homegroup and likes to eat the sheet music when we're not looking. Hehe. I love hablando espanol with him and Ximena :) For this shoot, I used the window natural light in the tiny nursery, but also focused on his adorable details like tiny toes and fragile fingers. Doesn't he make your heart melt? It was so hard just picking a few favorites! Love these 3. Woodland LoveIf you've been following along you know that I love taking photos of members of our awesome church, Greenleaf Vineyard. We started out tiny, meeting in the basement of a bank. Now, we're a flourishing and diverse community meeting at Culbreth Middle School thanks to the incredible guidance of Rodger and Angela. I've known Rodger and Angela since 2008 when I first wondered into the chank (church + bank) as a freshman with tons of questions about my faith and seeking a homey church. In between my senior year of high school and freshman year of college, Drew and I and a few other friends took a summer long trip to Costa Rica where we volunteered with a great church, we helped start a recycling program, and we served in an after school community development program. So coming off that paradise high, I was looking for a church that was authentic, a people that cared for the community, and approachable pastors with genuine, God-centered hearts. Ta-Da! Our church's motto is: Honor God. Love The Community. Live Like Family How perfect! After all this church has given me and and the amazing community our pastors have fostered, I was so happy to take Christmas card photos for the Otero's. We went to Hank Anderson Park in Carborro and walked around the path by a small pond. Angela specifically wanted a few photos that centered around her daughter to match some family photos when their son was around this age. Such a strong, amazing, and beautiful family!
Spring Time Family LoveI first heard about Jo, Jamie, and their 2 amazing girls a few years ago in church. Our little church plant was so excited to welcome this beautiful family to our growing community. Jamie is a writer and assistant pastor and Jo has the most caring heart and is full of wisdom. I love when I get to teach their two girls in Kid's Church. I know it will be an easy day haha because they're so polite, smart, and fun!
We explored around UNC's Arboretum, laid in the grass, climbed trees, and picked flowers :) This was my first family of four, so directing poses and making sure all 8 eye balls were open was a new and fun challenge. Thanks for letting me take photos, Garrett's! Giggles and Fall ColorsGolden hour love! So thankful for my Greenleaf community! Vicki and Brendan have been so incredibly supportive as I begin to take more photos! They are so encouraging and just gave me so much confidence! Vicki even started a shared Pinterest board with pose ideas. We ventured to the NC Botanical Gardens and chased the sunshine. Love these 3!
Kai the ExplorerAnother perfect family from my supportive church, Greenleaf. Landon and Jana are THE COOLEST. They served in the Peace Corps in the middle east, Landon is the funniest human ever, Jana is best cook and incredible runner aaaand they're the best parents to the most adorable Kai. Kai likes to knock on our apartment door. Laura and Kai like to make blanket forts. Sometimes, Kai gets Laura and Drew mixed up haha.
We went exploring at the NC Botanical Garden. It was super easy. We let Kai run around and explore and I got to capture some nice candid moments. Landon and Jana are great friends and have been so encouraging as I begin photographing more families. Hope you enjoy these beautiful photos! |
